We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand / Signalman to support the day-to-day signalling and rail infrastructure maintenance activities of a small work group based at Telarah. Working closely with the Leader, you will undertake signaller duties, coordinate employees, contractors, subcontractors, equipment and work activities to deliver safe, timely, cost-effective and high-quality outcomes across the NSW and South Maitland Railway networks.

The role operates across a Monday-to-Friday roster, generally commencing at 7.00 am and finishing at 5.30 pm, with roster arrangements comprising of four 10-hour shifts week 1 and then three 10-hour shifts and one eight-hour shift week 2.

About the role

  • Undertake signaller duties,
  • Undertake, plan, organise, communicate and lead daily rail infrastructure maintenance activities.
  • Supervise the safe and efficient coordination of team members, contractors, subcontractors, equipment, plant and track machines.
  • Prepare, implement and maintain safety documentation, including pre-starts and other required work controls.
  • Ensure work is completed to the required rail infrastructure standards, quality requirements, timeframes and budget expectations.
  • Support the delivery of budgets through sound cost awareness, budget monitoring and financial understanding.
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure all activities comply with relevant rail safety standards, procedures and network requirements.
  • Support competent machine operation and operator servicing to maximise equipment availability.
  • Build effective working relationships across the team and contribute to reliable customer outcomes.

About you

You will be a practical and collaborative leader who communicates clearly, makes sound decisions, keeps the customer in focus and looks for better ways to organise and deliver work.

  • Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure (Mandatory)
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking and supervising rail infrastructure maintenance activities and coordinating the day-to-day operations of a work group.
  • Strong working knowledge of rail infrastructure maintenance requirements, competencies, standards and safe work practices.
  • Experience preparing and implementing safety documentation, including pre-starts and SWMS.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and subcontractors in an operational rail environment.
  • A signalling background, experience as a Track Inspector or Protection Officer will also be highly regarded.
  • Experience with track machines and relevant machine operation tickets is desirable.
  • A Heavy Vehicle Driver Licence is highly regarded.
  • Sound leadership, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
