Role Details
Reporting to the Senior Engineer (EI&C), the Senior Instrumentation Technician will play a pivotal role in maintaining and optimizing the performance of Field instrumentation in the Pulp Mill Area. You will ensure the accuracy, reliability, and safety of all measurement and field control equipment used in production processes. The role involves hands-on technical work, leadership in troubleshooting and upgrades, and collaboration with engineering and operations teams to drive efficiency and innovation.
What you'll do
- Perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of a wide range of instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Lead instrumentation projects, including system upgrades, new installations, and integrations.
- Ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with relevant safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to optimize process control and system efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance activities, system configurations, and changes.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior technicians to build team capability.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead all instrumentation-related activities during Major Shutdowns (MSD) and scheduled maintenance events.
- Supervise and coordinate with contractors during shutdown to ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved instructions and ensure quality control checks are properly executed and documented.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance regime for all control valves across the pulp mill.
- Review spare parts inventory and plan timely procurement of critical spares to prevent downtime.
- Create and manage new stock codes in IFS (ERP software) for instrumentation spare parts.
- Review and update Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and maintenance work instructions to align with specific instrument requirements.
What You Will Bring
- 10–15 years of hands-on experience in instrumentation within the Paper manufacturing industry / Process Industry.
- Sound knowledge of control valves /Pneumatic & Electrical Actuators /Transmitters (Flow, Level, pressure, Temperature, Density) /Radiation based instrument maintenance.
- Good understanding of Gas Burner Instrumentation & Hazardous area Instrumentation.
- Sound knowledge of continuous emissions monitoring equipment
- Sound knowledge of applicable Australian standards
- Good understanding of process control systems, PLCs, DCS, and their integration with field instrumentation.
- Proficient in interpreting P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Relevant trade qualification /degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
