The Role & The Team

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team transforming how Airservices quantifies and reports on safety performance and risk. You will contribute to the understanding of risk; accessing and creating models - developing new insights and identifying solutions to inform decision making. You will analyse safety and risk related data from multiple datasets, including occurrence reporting, aircraft trajectories, airspace sectorisation, staffing, and much more, to create a holistic risk picture.

You will intelligently explore data and models to answer critical questions. This will involve analysis, programming, mathematics, modelling, simulation, machine learning, reporting, automation, graphing, and statistics. You will explore ways to automate analysis to improve organisational efficiency. The role will also require you to learn and appreciate the systems underneath the data and analysis. There is scope for this role to adapt to your strengths or to those areas you wish to grow in.

The Person

This role would suit a qualified graduate with 3+ years of relevant experience; a recent post-graduate (PhD or Masters); or other related experience.

To be successful in this role you will need to be comfortable working with numerical, mathematical, and statistical concepts and computer programming in a scripted language, preferably Python. You should have a curious and growth mind-set to explore the data and analysis.

You will need to be able to work independently, under some supervision, and as part of a diverse team. You will enjoy researching and learning new skills and adapting to a variety of challenges.

Successful analysis also requires the communication of results to technical and non-technical audiences. Hence you will need to have good written and verbal communication skills.

The successful applicant will have:

  1. tertiary qualifications in applied mathematics, computing, science, engineering, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline
  2. experience in programming in a scripted language (such as Python, Matlab, R or a similar language)
  3. either three or more years of relevant experience, or a relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD or Masters).
