The Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy (MCEM) is a central university research platform that provides a world-class capability in electron microscopy to enable researchers to solve major scientific challenges. MCEM achieves this through the provision of advanced instrumentation, expertise and training in electron microscopy and through the development of new electron microscopy techniques.

MCEM has a suite of 9 major instruments, including 2 double-aberration corrected FEG-TEMs, a cryo-FIB-SEM with ToF-SIMS and high-resolution and analytical SEMs, plus supporting equipment, all of which are located in a purpose-designed, ultrastable building.

The Centre provides a research capability to several hundred researchers from Monash University, other universities, government research agencies and industry and plays an important role in educating postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in electron microscopy. It is part of the national grid of Microscopy Australia facilities and provides a key complementary facility to the adjacent Ramaciotti Centre for Cryo-Electron Microscopy, the Australian Synchrotron and Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN), which are within walking distance.
