The Opportunity
The Lecturer (Practice), similar to a Senior Research Consultant/ Account Director in the private sector, will play a key role in growing the Australian Consumer and Retail Studies (ACRS) research unit through business development, industry engagement, and the delivery of high-impact applied research and consultancy projects. The role is responsible for building commercial partnerships, attracting external funding, preparing proposals, and leading end-to-end client projects including research design, analysis, reporting, and presentation of findings. The position also contributes to ACRS budget oversight, research income reporting, and the promotion of Monash and ACRS through industry publications, media engagement, conferences, and professional forums.
Drawing on strong professional practice experience, the Lecturer (Practice) will strengthen links between academia, industry, and government while supporting the ACRS strategic agenda and identifying opportunities for research impact. The role also includes supervising junior staff and student researchers, contributing to guest lectures and tutorials, and supporting the Faculty’s accreditation and responsible leadership commitments across all activities.
As the successful candidate, you will bring a Bachelor Honours degree or higher qualification, together with at least five years’ experience in marketing and consumer research and/or consulting, including responsibility for business development and income generation. You will have a proven ability to build strong client and stakeholder relationships, lead commercial research projects from design through to analysis and presentation, and translate complex qualitative and quantitative data into clear, actionable insights.
You will also demonstrate excellent organisational, project management, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent ACRS and the University confidently to industry and the broader community. A proactive and solutions-focused approach, strong judgement, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively will be essential, along with leadership capability to guide teams and deliver high-quality outcomes.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This role requires current valid work rights for Australia.
Monash University invites applications from candidates who can demonstrate valid and current Australian work rights.
