The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious early career researcher (ECR) to join our Translational Kidney Therapies Group. This position focuses on investigating new therapeutic targets to develop treatments for autoimmune kidney diseases. The successful candidate will:
- Conduct gut microbiome studies
- Investigate key targets to prevent neutrophil extracellular trap production
- Develop strategies to detect pro-inflammatory micro and nano plastics consumed through diet
- Use gene therapy strategies (adeno-associated viral vectors) for new treatments
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and team-based research leading to high-impact publications.
- Identify research gaps and emerging topics to develop new research programs.
- Support and mentor PhD, Masters, and Honours students.
- Assist with external proposals, funded projects, and dissemination of results.
- Manage experimental animals, including health monitoring and handling.
- Oversee mouse colonies, OHS compliance records, and ethics applications.
- Attend and present at conferences and seminars.
- Contribute to administrative and teaching activities related to research projects.
- Design and operate advanced laboratory and technical equipment.
- Participate in meetings and committees related to research and organizational activities.
The successful candidate will:
- Doctoral qualification (or progress towards completion) in Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
- Extensive experience with animal models (mouse), including handling and treatment administration (intraperitoneal, oral gavage, intravenous, subcutaneous)
- Demonstrated manuscript preparation skills with a peer-reviewed publication track record
- Proven expertise in flow cytometry and analysis (preferably Cytek Aurora, Spectral Flow Cytometry)
- Experience in producing recombinant proteins (preferably using a baculovirus expression system)
- Advanced computer and analytical skills, including Microsoft Office and analytical software such as FlowJo and PRISM
- Proficiency in basic immunology assays: cell culture, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, Western Blots, and real-time PCR
- Strong problem-solving skills using discretion, innovation, and diagnostic expertise
