The Opportunity

Monash University’s Faculty of Engineering, Australia’s #1 Engineering School, is seeking a Research Fellow (Level A or B) in the Department of Civil Engineering. Reporting to Professor Jeffrey Walker, the successful candidate will make seminal contributions to a near-space surveillance capability for natural disaster risk prediction and monitoring. Specifically, they will lead high-altitude platform mission data stream developments, including the design, hardware development, and testing of a passive microwave phased array radiometer with antenna aperture synthesis at L-band and/or Ka-band. Key tasks include evaluating radiometer options, developing processing algorithms, and innovating lightweight, power-efficient components. The role requires up to two one-month off-campus assignments per year for essential fieldwork. Learn more about the Faculty of Engineering at our website.
