The Opportunity

Join the cutting-edge team at the Monash Genome Modification Platform (MGMP) as a Research Officer, where you will play a crucial role in delivering top-tier scientific services to support ground-breaking genetic research. As a key contributor to the platform, you will coordinate a variety of laboratory activities, operate specialised equipment, conduct data analysis, and manage administrative duties to ensure smooth, efficient, and compliant operations.

Your primary responsibilities will involve providing technical expertise in the genotyping of genetically modified mouse lines and cell lines. This includes DNA preparation from mouse tail samples, setting up and running PCR genotyping, enzyme digestion of PCR products, agarose gel electrophoresis, and preparing DNA samples for sequencing. You will be instrumental in the creation and verification of genetically modified models that fuel cutting-edge research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement molecular biology services, ensuring compliance with scientific protocols and safety regulations
  • Manage laboratory tasks, including scheduling, data management, and equipment operation
  • Prepare reports, conduct literature reviews, and provide critical data analysis for research leaders
  • Adhere to research ethics and maintain confidentiality, ensuring a high standard of work across all projects

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and make sound judgments
  • Experience with advanced laboratory technologies and software, and an aptitude for learning new systems quickly
  • Prior experience with genotyping is essential
