The Opportunity

Are you passionate about aquatic animal care and scientific research? The Regenerative Biology Unit at ARMI is seeking a dedicated Aquarium Technician to support our cutting-edge Muscle Development Laboratory. We use zebrafish to investigate skeletal muscle formation, growth mechanisms, and regeneration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily fish husbandry (feeding, cleaning) following strict SOPs and animal welfare standards
  • Monitor zebrafish health, tank cleanliness, and environmental conditions
  • Maintain breeding records, rear larvae, and manage strain selection
  • Perform technical services such as fin clipping, sperm freezing, and embryo collection
  • Collaborate with clients and assist casual staff and researchers
  • Ensure accurate stock management, including preparation for dispatch

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Year 12 with relevant experience or near completion of a diploma in Animal Technology, Aquaculture, or related fields
  • Practical knowledge of fish rearing, breeding systems, water quality, and filtration equipment
  • Familiarity with animal ethics and regulatory standards
  • Strong administrative, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with zebrafish techniques and specialized equipment
