We are looking for a passionate Assistant Lecturer to join our team until the end of January 2026 and make an impact in the fields of applied geophysics, computational geoscience, and Geographic Information Science. In this role, you will coordinate the Third Year Applied Geophysics unit (EAE3032) and contribute to teaching other units on the topic of Geographical Information Science. You will spend the balance of your time engaged in research, outreach or other projects, depending on your skills and experience.
The successful candidate will conduct tutorials, practical classes, workshops, field excursions, and/or clinical sessions, and may assist in delivering lectures and seminars. Additional duties include research, student consultation, marking and assessment, and creating teaching materials. They may also take on limited administrative tasks, act as subject coordinators (if qualified), and attend meetings and committees. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
To be successful in the role, you will need to display:
- A doctorate in Earth Sciences or a relevant discipline
- High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in both education and service sectors
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, internal teams, external teams, and organizations
- Proven teaching experience in a tertiary environment
- Ability to motivate, engage, and educate a diverse audience
- Experience in developing teaching materials
- Strong commitment to and passion for engaging in scholarly and research activities
- Ability to work in a collegial manner with other staff members
