The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking a Senior Data Centre Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of our high-performance network infrastructure. Supporting Monash’s world-leading research platforms, this role is integral to maintaining scalable, low-latency, and resilient data centre networks. It combines strategic planning with deep technical expertise to ensure our research computing environments are future-ready, reliable, and secure.
You will be responsible for ensuring availability, scalability, performance, and continuous innovation in data centre networking services, which underpin critical research platforms, including but not limited to;
- Planning, designing, and implementing the University’s network services, components and associated solutions, systems and infrastructure
- Integrating and optimising NVIDIA networking technologies, including Mellanox Ethernet, InfiniBand, and Rail-optimised networks
- Ensuring operational readiness through system monitoring, validation, and seamless production transitions.
- Ensuring strong security practices through the implementation of network segmentation and microsegmentation
- Ensuring compliance with information security standards and university governance frameworks.
- Evaluating and preparing technical specifications, assessing vendor solutions, and overseeing system commissioning and acceptance testing.
To excel in this role, you should possess;
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering with an appropriate industry Certification such as CCIE, CCDE among others
- Strong skills in enterprise/data centre grade network hardware/software, protocols, network security, and Cloud with substantial experience in the planning, development and implementation of complex data centre networks and/or infrastructure
- Experience in deploying and optimising data centre infrastructure using NVIDIA rail-optimised network topologies and related systems
- Strong experience in secure network design and implementation, including network segmentation/microsegmentation, especially in research and HPC environments
- Advanced operational knowledge of Layer 2/3 switching, routing, and network security across virtualised and containerised environments
- Detailed knowledge of industry standards and evolving trends in data centre interconnects, software-defined networking, and network automation technologies.
