The Opportunity
The Department Manager provides high-level leadership and operational management, representing the Head of Department and acting as the key liaison with the School and University’s administrative functions. This role supports academic staff, enhances research and learning outcomes, and ensures effective resource allocation, staff workload oversight, and compliance with policies and legislation.
Responsible for strategic and operational planning, the Department Manager manages budgets, infrastructure, and administrative systems while delivering expert advice to senior leaders and department staff. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the department runs efficiently and aligns with broader institutional objectives.
As the successful candidate, you will bring strong operational management skills, offering expert technical and policy advice. With proven leadership, you can set priorities, allocate resources, and drive a high-performing team. Your ability to problem-solve, engage stakeholders, and build consensus at senior levels will be key to enhancing departmental operations. A strong understanding of the higher education sector, including national education and research priorities, will enable you to contribute strategically and exceed stakeholder expectations.
