The Opportunity

Are you an Engineering graduate with a passion for teaching? The Faculty of Engineering invites applications for sessional academics to support our dynamic academic team across the five Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to the education of tomorrow’s Engineering leaders in a world class Engineering Faculty.

Teaching into first year units, key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver engaging teaching activities in the following first-year Engineering courses:
    • ENG1011 - Engineering Methods 
    • Desirable skills sets include Statics, Dynamics, Mechanisms, CAD and 3D printing
    • ENG1012 - Engineering Design
    • Desirable skill sets include Professional engineering experience (any field), Chemical Engineering fundamentals (e.g. fluid mechanics, heat-mass transfer, mass-energy balance and process control.)
    • ENG1013 - Engineering Smart Systems
    • Desirable skill sets include Programming (Python desirable), Arduino, Circuit Theory and Construction (Breadboarding)
    • ENG1014 - Engineering Numerical Analysis
    • Desirable skill sets include Programming (Python desirable), VCE Specialist Mathematics knowledge, General teaching experience
  • Mark and assess student assignments, exams and other coursework in line with provided rubrics
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and professional growth
  • Facilitate and model effective teamwork practice to teams of students
  • Develop and update learning materials and incorporate real-world case studies
  • Maintain academic integrity and uphold the high teaching standards of the Monash Faculty of Engineering

About You!

We are seeking candidates who possess strong academic qualifications in Engineering. You must hold a Bachelor’s (with Honours) degree or higher. Although not essential, any recent or current industry experience in Engineering will be highly regarded.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate effective communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for engaging with a diverse, first-year student cohort, along with a commitment to delivering high-quality, student-centred education. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative academic team. Familiarity with digital learning platforms and contemporary teaching tools will be considered an advantage.
