The Opportunity

Lead, innovate, and shape the future of engineering Education and Research.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is seeking a dynamic Technical Manager to drive high-quality technical services across Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, and related disciplines. In this pivotal role, you will lead complex engineering activities, develop cutting-edge experimental programs, and provide expert guidance and training to students and staff.

You will play a key role in supporting engineering design and research outcomes, while ensuring best-practice standards across operations, safety, and facility management. Working closely with academics, researchers, and technical teams, you’ll help optimise the use of advanced facilities and contribute to future-focused planning aligned with emerging priorities.

As a Senior leader, you will champion innovation in technical practices, deliver exceptional service, and provide strategic and operational advice to support the department’s goals. Experience as a technical lead or within highly experimental higher education environments will be highly regarded.

Your application must respond to your experience in the 2 key areas outlined under the Key Selection Criteria in the position description.

  • 2. Excellent operational management skills with proven ability to provide authoritative specialist
    and technical advice
  • 8. Demonstrate expertise in mechanical and electrical design and manufacturing, including CAD modelling, traditional manufacturing techniques such as laser cutting as well as new techniques such as rapid prototyping. Responsible for sensor selection, circuit and PCB design, assembly, and microcontroller programming.
