The Opportunity
Join the Monash Synthetic Biology Platform (MSBP), a newly developed research technology Platform advancing the design and development of novel proteins and peptides through the integration of in silico protein design, protein chemistry, liquid handling and functional screening. The Platform brings together complementary capabilities to enable discovery and development across the Faculty, University and external academic and industry sectors, with applications spanning new medicines, diagnostics and advanced manufacturing.
As Senior Lecturer (Practice), you will develop and implement workflows for protein and peptide expression, integrating AI-mediated protein design pipelines and contributing to research and industry projects involving the design and screening of new-to-nature proteins and peptides. You will provide specialist advice across MSBP and the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, contribute to scopes of work and complex data analysis, and collaborate with capabilities in protein expression, crystallography and high-throughput functional genetic screening. The role will also support Platform growth through technical expertise, client engagement and promotion of its advanced capabilities.
We are seeking someone with a PhD or relevant Master’s qualification with equivalent professional experience, and substantial experience in protein or peptide biology and discovery research. Knowledge of protein expression, screening and functional characterisation, high-throughput molecular biology, robotic workflows and computational protein design will be highly relevant, together with research innovation, industry or professional contribution and subject matter expertise. Strong project management, mentoring, communication and relationship-building skills will support effective collaboration with researchers, students, industry partners and other stakeholders.
Join the Faculty and contribute to an exciting research environment at the intersection of synthetic biology, protein design and advanced research technologies—we look forward to receiving your application.
