The Opportunity

Are you ready to make an impact in cutting-edge medical research? We’re seeking a Research Assistant to play a key role in establishing a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)-funded Systems Immunology lab at Monash University.

This lab focuses on the study of immune receptor repertoires to improve kidney transplant outcomes, offering you the opportunity to contribute to vital advancements in medical science.

About the Role:

This is a 6-month position, with the potential for extension, where you’ll support ground-breaking research in immune receptor dynamics. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing human blood samples, including PBMC isolation, RNA extractions and cell enrichment and staining for flow cytometry
  • Keeping accurate records
  • Analyzing and interpreting data while assisting in experimental design and execution
  • Supporting the development of new experimental protocols and providing general lab support

What You’ll Bring:

  • Qualifications: An honors degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent research experience
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Competency in nucleic acid extractions, flow cytometry, PBMC separation and quantitative RT-PCR
    • Experience with RNA-seq, single-cell sequencing, or other NGS techniques
  • Research Acumen: Strong analytical skills and a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Collaboration & Communication: A team-oriented approach with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software
