The Opportunity
Lead a cutting-edge genomics research platform and drive innovation!
The Genomics Node Manager is a senior leadership role at the Monash Genomics and Bioinformatics Platform (MGBP), responsible for overseeing the operations, strategic direction, and business development of the Genomics Node. Reporting to the Scientific Director, you will lead a team of approximately six staff, manage a $2.54M budget, and ensure the delivery of high-quality research services, training, and education.
This full-time, onsite position requires a strong leader with technical expertise in genomics, particularly spatial and single-cell technologies, and a proven ability to develop and implement business models for sustainable research infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership – Develop and implement the Genomics Node’s operational and business strategy, ensuring long-term sustainability and cutting-edge service offerings
- Research & Technology – Collaborate with researchers to provide expert genomics support, guiding experimental design and technology selection
- Stakeholder Engagement – Establish and maintain high-level relationships with national and international research networks, funding bodies, and industry partners
- Business Development – Drive service expansion, introduce new genomics technologies, and secure funding from government and external sources
- Team Leadership – Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and service
- Financial & Risk Management – Oversee budget allocation, compliance, quality assurance, and operational efficiency
About You:
- Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in genomics or a related field
- Extensive technical expertise in genomics technologies, including spatial and single-cell genomics
- Strong management experience, with the ability to develop and lead a high-performing team
- Highly desirable ability to build partnerships, influence stakeholders, and secure funding
- Exceptional strategic planning, problem-solving, and business development skills
