The Opportunity

The Senior Operations and Infrastructure Manager provides high-level leadership, expert advice, and strategic direction for the spaces, facilities, and buildings occupied by the School of Translational Medicine. Reporting to the School Manager, this role ensures the effective operation of research environments, overseeing space planning, building projects, security management, leasing support, and compliance while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Managing a team of up to five staff, the position also requires risk management expertise, ensuring the proper functioning of controlled environments, such as -80°C storage, cryo storage, and radiation management. As a key stakeholder, you will liaise with University divisions, precinct partners, and emergency management committees to maintain and enhance infrastructure that supports cutting-edge medical research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility & Space Management – Oversee the operation and allocation of research spaces, ensuring security, accessibility, and compliance
  • Research Infrastructure Oversight – Manage controlled environments to protect critical research materials and respond to infrastructure alarms
  • Strategic Leadership – Drive continuous facility improvements, operational processes, and long-term sustainability initiatives
  • Team Development – Lead and develop a high-performing team, aligning resources to meet research priorities
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborate with University divisions, external partners, and funding bodies to advance operational priorities
  • Risk & Compliance Management – Ensure adherence to legislative and university regulations, including OGTR, OH&S, and Radiation Safety

About You:

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field OR extensive management experience in a medical or scientific environment
  • Strong leadership and operational management experience in complex research spaces
  • Proven ability to manage risks and respond to critical events in a laboratory-based setting
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical and digital proficiency, including advanced MS Office skills
