The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Fellow to build and support a team as well as lead innovative research in health economics and musculoskeletal health. Based within the Musculoskeletal Health and Wiser Healthcare Units, and aligned with the ANZMUSC Clinical Trial Network Centre of Research Excellence, this role will focus on economic evaluations of healthcare interventions, policy impact analysis, and resource allocation frameworks.

You will play a key leadership role in growing our health economics research capability, securing funding, publishing in high-impact journals, and mentoring junior researchers and students. You will also lead activities of the ANZMUSC Health Economics Special Interest Group and drive interdisciplinary collaborations that inform policy and improve healthcare sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and contributing to health economic research, including cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses
  • Developing economic models and frameworks to support sustainable healthcare decision-making
  • Leading research proposals and managing grants
  • Publishing high-quality research outputs
  • Supervising and mentoring HDR students and junior staff
  • Building national and international collaborations across academia, healthcare and government
  • Providing leadership in the ANZMUSC Health Economics Special Interest Group

About You
You will have a doctoral qualification in health economics or a closely related field, alongside a strong track record of impactful research, demonstrated success in securing competitive funding, and experience supervising HDR students. You’ll bring demonstrated expertise in:

  • Health economic modelling and evaluation techniques ideally to inform decision-making around resource allocation in musculoskeletal health
  • Assessing economic burden and policy implications in musculoskeletal health
  • Developing and leading interdisciplinary research teams
  • Communicating research outcomes to a range of stakeholders including policymakers and clinicians

You’re also an effective communicator and collaborator, with the ability to work independently and strategically in a research-intensive environment.
