The Opportunity

Do you have a passion for supporting cutting-edge research and ensuring compliance with vital regulations? Monash University is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Compliance Officer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide high-level administrative services to bolster our research strategies and initiatives.

To succeed in this role, you’ll provide:

  • Expert Guidance: Deliver specialist advice on Commonwealth and state legislation, particularly the Biosecurity Act 2015 and Gene Technology Act 2000.

  • Process Management: Oversee administrative processes related to biosecurity and gene technology, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.

  • Facility Compliance: Conduct inspections and maintain records for Approved Arrangement sites and OGTR-certified facilities in line with regulatory obligations.

  • Committee Support: Provide administrative support to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), including coordinating meetings and processing applications.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders.

  • Policy Development: Contribute to policy development, governance processes, and compliance reporting.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A degree in a relevant field, or extensive experience in medical, biomedical, or life sciences disciplines.

  • Knowledge of Australian legislation relating to recombinant DNA technologies and the importation and use of biological goods.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to effectively manage time, workload, and competing priorities.

  • Excellent communication skills, enabling you to engage with diverse stakeholders and negotiate positive outcomes.

  • A collaborative approach to teamwork, coupled with the ability to work independently using sound judgement and initiative.
