The Opportunity
Monash University’s Artificial Heart Frontiers Program (AHFP) is at the cutting edge of developing innovative cardiovascular technologies that will transform patient care. We are looking for a strategic, commercial, and operational leader to drive the delivery of this complex, high-impact program.
Reporting directly to the AHFP Program Directors, you will be responsible for turning the program’s strategic plans into operational reality — from navigating financial and regulatory compliance to managing a large budget of up to $50M, developing strong industry partnerships, and delivering key milestones.
This is a high-profile role with significant responsibility and visibility. You’ll oversee a team of passionate professionals, collaborate with stakeholders across Monash, industry, government, and health care, and contribute to the delivery of innovations that have the potential to improve health outcomes for patients globally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic, operational, financial, and commercial leadership for the AHFP
- Implementing the delivery of research and commercialisation plans while managing a large budget and team
- Driving strategic relationships with stakeholders, collaborators, regulators, and funding bodies
- Ensuring strong compliance, governance, and financial oversight
- Leading intellectual property and risk management strategies alongside a team of experts
- Supporting the preparation and submission of major grant applications and securing funding for future initiatives
About you:
- A relevant postgraduate qualification or extensive executive experience in a complex, high-profile environment
- Experience in navigating funding mechanisms, financial compliance, and operational delivery in a health or biotechnology context
- Exceptional strategic, interpersonal, and project management skills, with a track record of delivering large, complex programs
- Experience with developing and commercialising class III medical devices, securing industry partnerships, and navigating a range of stakeholders
- Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, and innovation within your team
- Familiarity with regulations and industry standards, including ISO13485
This is a unique opportunity to make a measurable, high-impact contribution to the future of cardiovascular health care.
