The Opportunity

The Monash Research Office is seeking an experienced research administration specialist to join our team as a Senior Awards Officer in the post-awards service area. We are looking for a strategic thinker, expert adviser and collaborative leader to champion excellence in research administration.

As a key member of our Awards team, you’ll be at the forefront of supporting groundbreaking research. You’ll provide high-level advice, mentor emerging talent and drive continuous improvement in awards processes. Your expertise will help shape policy, provide strategic guidance to teams and effectively deliver research award services to the Monash research community.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert guidance and strategic support to the Monash research community
  • Lead specialist services and streamline awards processes
  • Mentor and train team members, fostering a culture of excellence
  • Work collaboratively within the MRO to support team goals, drive innovation and best practice
  • Produce high-impact reports, presentations, and communications
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends in research management
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships and networks with other relevant business units, functional areas and internal and external stakeholders

About You

You will have a relevant qualification and substantial experience in research management. Experience with managing significant volumes of post-award set-up, variations, transfers and reporting is highly desirable.

Your problem-solving skills and initiative, combined with your ability to work as an excellent team player, will be vital to your success in this role, as well as:

  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the research environment and funding schemes
  • Strong analytical thinking and strategic decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation and consultation skills, including an ability to exercise initiative, tact and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in business management software

The MRO works closely with Monash researchers, faculties, funding bodies and industry to facilitate the University’s research objectives. It does this through an active program of identifying and developing funding opportunities, providing active and timely assistance to researchers in the grant application process, administering awards, and providing statistical research data.
