The Opportunity

The Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology within the School of Biomedical Sciences is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our collaborative team as an Assistant Lecturer (Education-Focused).

The School of Biomedical Sciences and the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) form a leading biomedical research and teaching hub in Australia, housing over 120 research groups across departments such as Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Physiology. 

They offer specialized programs within Biomedical Science, Medicine, and Health degrees, supported by a state-of-the-art $80 million teaching building opened in 2019. The BDI’s six interdisciplinary research programs focus on areas like Infection, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Stem Cells, Metabolic Disease, and Neuroscience, collaborating closely with clinical and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deliver and evaluate a range of teaching activities which engage students actively and which effectively deliver learning outcomes, with key responsibilities in our graduate-entry medical program located in Churchill, Victoria (Gippsland)

  • Contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and graduate classes (laboratory sessions, workshops and tutorials) as part of a team 

  • Contribute to the delivery and support of the annual Glasgow Summer Scholarship program

  • Foster learning environments that are flexible, student-centred and inclusive, and utilise a mix of teaching and learning technologies, as appropriate at different campuses.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following:

  • High-level interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish a good working relationship with colleagues and students.

  • A clinical degree that includes substantial training in whole body human anatomy 

  • Experience in human cadaveric dissection or cadaver-based teaching

  • Demonstrated record of teaching and assessment experience in a tertiary environment

  • Prior experience working with learning management software

  • Detailed knowledge of human topographical anatomy and its clinical applications, as required to teach undergraduate level clinical anatomy programs

  • An understanding of contemporary pedagogical processes in tertiary education 

  • Experience with image-based anatomy teaching using ultrasound and other modes of medical imaging
