The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking a skilled and experienced Financial Accountant to provide expert accounting services to the University. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality financial accounting advice, maintaining accurate general ledger and lease accounting integrity, overseeing critical month-end and year-end processes, and assisting with statutory reporting. You’ll also play a key role in supporting our Property and Leasing function and engaging with audit and compliance matters.
This position will be responsible for delivering the University’s core financial accounting functions, including oversight of month-end and year-end close-off processes and providing advanced financial analysis. You'll assist in the preparation of highly complex consolidated financial statements, support audit compliance, and provide technical advice to inform strategic decision-making. Your work will contribute to shaping financial policy and enhancing financial systems through process improvements and training. Collaboration is central to this role, requiring strong engagement with business units and functional areas to ensure consistency, integrity, and continuous improvement in financial practices.
To be successful in this role, you will have a degree in finance or accounting, CPA or CA status, or equivalent experience in complex financial environments. You will bring deep expertise in statutory reporting, Australian Accounting Standards, and financial audits. Your proven ability to lead accounting functions, develop consolidated reports, and deliver analytical insights will be critical to success in this role. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and advanced Excel and financial systems knowledge will be essential.
