The Opportunity

Monash University is seeking an Associate Director, Indigenous Employment to drive our University-wide strategies, programs and initiatives, supporting the attraction, recruitment, development, career progression and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. 

This pivotal role will involve close collaboration with the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous), to provide expert leadership and advice to ensure Indigenous employment strategies are culturally grounded, aligned with Monash’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework, and embedded across all University faculties and divisions. 

This position is also responsible for building strong, trusted relationships with Indigenous staff and communities, collaborating with senior leaders and HR teams, and championing a culturally safe and inclusive workplace culture that fosters the growth and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff at Monash.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the co-development and implementation of key employment initiatives in collaboration with the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) to strengthen employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff
  • Partner with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) to lead the design, oversight and continuous improvement of policies, programs, and initiatives that advance the objectives of the Monash Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework 2019–2030
  • Proactively lead the engagement and collaboration of Indigenous employment initiatives across HR,  working with the HR Recruitment Centre of Excellence to expedite recruitment initiatives
  • Build the capability of the Monash workforce to implement Indigenous employment initiatives and strategies

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in leading and managing Indigenous employment and development programs. 
  • Proven HR skills with a track record in deploying talent management strategies to achieve business outcomes
  • Exceptional management and leadership skills with proven ability to strategically manage and provide authoritative technical and policy advice at the highest levels
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities, and relevant social and political landscape
