The Organisation

Monash University Library is one of Australia’s leading academic libraries. Central to our 2020-2025 strategy is the vision of being a ‘modern, global top 100 library’ where our content, collections, facilities, services and culture represent best practice and collectively make a significant contribution to the University’s reputation and impact. We continually evaluate what we do in relation to the University’s goals and always look ‘through our users’ eyes’. While we work to ensure that our users’ experiences with the Library are productive, useful, efficient and rewarding, we aspire to delight by exceeding their expectations. The Opportunity

As a Senior Library Services Officer, you are one of a team of four Senior Officers responsible for supervising a team of Library Experience Assistants, and for supporting Frontline Services Coordinators in managing frontline services for Monash students, staff, Alumni, and visitors across six libraries via our physical and virtual service points. This is a key role for ensuring that our users' experiences are productive, useful, efficient and rewarding; we aspire to delight by exceeding their expectations. Senior Officers are leaders in the creation of welcoming spaces, collaborating with teams across the University to support students to thrive.

To enable supervision and service quality activities during semester and across all campuses, the Senior Library Services Officer will be rostered between the hours 7.45am - 8pm, Monday to Friday, and will be allocated two weekend days each month, paid as overtime.

Travel to other campuses or library branches of the University will be required.

The role includes:

  • Supervising a team of seasonal and casual Library Experience Assistants
  • Supporting the design and implementation of the Libraries for Belonging project
  • Development of a user-centred culture amongst team members through the continuous improvement of services and staff knowledge
  • Undertaking rostering, allocation of work, improvement of services, and training of frontline services members, under the direction of Frontline Services Coordinators
  • Supporting the development of services and spaces which are inclusive and non-judgemental, designed for and with our users.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.

Be part of our story. Work with us to #ChangeIt.

Monash avidly supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a range of policies in place enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments more easily.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
