The Opportunity

Monash University is seeking an experienced and strategic Platform Manager – Histology to lead the Monash Histology Platform, a university-wide research platform identified as a strategic priority for supporting our research community.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for the operational excellence, sustainability and strategic growth of the Platform. You will lead a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, oversee significant infrastructure and resources, and work closely with academic leaders, researchers and external partners to deliver high-quality histology services, training and innovation.

Reporting to the Head of the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and play a key role in shaping the future direction of histology capability at Monash, ensuring the Platform remains financially sustainable, technologically advanced and aligned with the University’s broader research strategy.

Your Impact

In this role, you will

  • Lead the strategic, operational and business planning of the Monash Histology Platform

  • Manage platform operations including infrastructure, budgeting, resourcing and regulatory compliance

  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of approximately 12 specialist staff

  • Drive continuous improvement, quality assurance and risk management across platform services

  • Build strong partnerships with researchers, Monash Research Platforms, and external stakeholders

  • Develop and implement marketing, communication and engagement strategies to grow platform usage

  • Lead business development activities, including funding and grant opportunities to support sustainability

  • Provide expert technical and strategic advice in histology to senior stakeholders and governance groups

About You

You are a highly capable leader with deep technical expertise in histology and a strong track record managing operations within a research-intensive, educational or commercial environment. You are comfortable balancing strategic vision with hands-on leadership and enjoy working across disciplines to deliver shared outcomes.

You will bring

  • Postgraduate qualifications or an equivalent combination of senior management experience and training

  • Extensive leadership and management experience in a large, complex organisation

  • Advanced technical expertise in routine and specialised histology

  • Strong financial, project and risk management capability

  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing, multidisciplinary teams

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills

  • Experience contributing to funding, infrastructure or research development initiatives
