The Opportunity

The Senior Finance Business Partner, Budgeting and Reporting plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality financial management services across Monash University. Working closely with senior leaders, this role provides expert financial advice, leads budgeting, forecasting and reporting activities, and implements tailored financial initiatives that enable informed decision-making and support the University’s strategic objectives. The position operates with significant autonomy and leads a dedicated team of finance professionals.

This position will be responsible for leading and overseeing comprehensive financial management services for allocated client groups, including budgeting, scenario planning, modelling, forecasting, performance monitoring, and the delivery of complex financial analysis and reporting to senior management. The role will provide expert, strategic advice to support business decision-making, identifying and responding to emerging issues, trends and opportunities. The role will also manage and develop a team of service-oriented finance professionals, ensuring effective resource allocation, capability development and high performance. It will build strong relationships with a broad network of University stakeholders and external partners, actively contribute to the Finance Services network, and champion continuous improvement in financial management practices, systems, quality assurance and customer service. The position will also identify and manage financial risks, ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and support the effective implementation of financial initiatives and change.

To be successful in this role you will have a recognised postgraduate accounting qualification with CPA or CA status (or equivalent experience), with extensive management experience in complex environments. You will bring deep expertise in strategic budgeting, financial analysis and reporting, systems improvement and the application of accounting standards and policies. Proven experience leading, motivating and developing professional teams is essential, as are exceptional analytical, problem-solving and project management skills. You will be an influential communicator, capable of providing authoritative advice to stakeholders with varying levels of financial literacy, and able to work autonomously while fostering a strong culture of customer service and continuous improvement.
