The Opportunity
Join a dynamic team at the intersection of research, technology and commercial innovation, where you’ll turn emerging ideas and research prototypes into digital solutions with real-world impact. As a Rapid Application Engineer, you’ll work across the full product development lifecycle, from exploring problems and shaping concepts through to prototyping, engineering and production.
Working closely with researchers, designers, industry partners and technical specialists, you’ll have the opportunity to translate complex technologies, including AI and machine learning, into intuitive, scalable and commercially viable applications. You’ll combine strong software engineering capability with a user-centred mindset, leveraging modern technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js and cloud platforms including GCP/Firebase and AWS.
This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between research innovation and industry application, with the autonomy to solve complex problems, experiment with new technologies and deliver high-quality digital experiences that move ideas from proof-of-concept to meaningful commercial outcomes.
Key Selection Criteria

Demonstrated experience developing production-ready applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Node.js, with modern cloud and serverless architectures across GCP/Firebase or AWS.

Strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, including coding standards, testing, version control, CI/CD, cloud deployment and application infrastructure.

Solid understanding of system design and application architecture, including RESTful/GraphQL APIs, data flows, UI state management, authentication and data integration.

Demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts, research prototypes or emerging technologies into practical digital solutions, with a strong focus on usability and user experience.

Highly developed communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, designers, industry partners and technical teams.

Strong organisation, judgement and initiative, with the ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment.

A demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn, with the adaptability to embrace emerging technologies, tools and methodologies and contribute to continuous innovation.
