The Opportunity

Join the Faculty of Engineering as a Technical Officer to support the Student Analytical Makerspace and Pilot Laboratories (SAMPL) and Monash Innovation Labs (MiLabs).

The Technical Officer is responsible for delivering high-quality technical, operational, and safety support across multiple laboratory facilities, including SAMPL and the MiLabs. The role applies advanced technical knowledge to support the effective operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of laboratory facilities that enable teaching, research and industry engagement activities.

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the day-to-day operation of laboratory facilities, including maintaining laboratory infrastructure and services (e.g. gas systems, water purification systems, safety equipment, and hazardous area compliance), managing chemical inventories and registries, and ensuring laboratories are maintained in a safe, functional and compliant state. Further, you will provide supervision and technical advice and/or training to clients, staff, students, Companies on Campus, and other stakeholders in the area of service or technical expertise, including inductions, equipment training, and compliance with technical standards, protocols and safe laboratory practices.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong educational background or substantial relevant skills and work experience. The role requires a degree in a relevant field of engineering (with some exposure to chemical processes) with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
