You will work closely with the Senior Director, ESD, to lead the management, vision and delivery of our enterprise application and data product portfolio, ensuring our digital solutions actively anticipate and respond to strategic business priorities.

You will partner with Senior Leadership across the University to bring their business visions to life, managing a product budget of up to $10 million and leading a diverse team of up to 20 IT and delivery professionals. Your work will directly shape the student and staff experience by overseeing core product roadmaps across a multifaceted technical stack (including MuleSoft, Databricks, SAP, BMC Helix, Microsoft Azure, and AWS).

Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap Ownership: Leading the strategic design, prioritisation, and delivery of the enterprise academic and data product roadmap to elevate student and staff engagement.
  • Practice Leadership: Setting industry-best standards for modern product management, Agile project management, and human-centred design across the portfolio.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Building: Mentoring, coaching, and managing a high-performing team of Product Managers and technical professionals to build an entrepreneurial, innovative culture.
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Management: Acting as an authoritative advisor to internal senior executives and external partners to translate complex business capabilities into supportable digital solutions.
  • Market & Data Analysis: Conducting regular competitive and industry analysis, leveraging data to keep Monash at the global forefront of higher education administration and technology.
  • Financial & Resource Governance: Coordinating resource and financial allocations across the digital portfolio to maximise strategic outcomes and deliver on budget targets.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will bring a blend of strategic vision, technical framework expertise, and exceptional leadership capability:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification plus extensive senior experience (10+ years), or equivalent high-level management experience and technical expertise. An ITIL Foundation Certification (or equivalent combination of training) is highly regarded.
  • Extensive experience leading, motivating and developing delivery professionals in a large, complex organisation, ideally spanning technologies like Moodle, MuleSoft, Azure, AWS, and custom development.
  • Deep knowledge of modern product management frameworks, startup methodologies, human-centred design, and hypothesis/issues-based problem-solving.
  • A proven track record of managing all lifecycle phases of organisation-wide, complex projects, including robust change management and communication strategies.
  • Exceptional strategic planning, organisational, and budget-management skills, with the capacity to allocate resources effectively under high-pressure conditions.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice and build strong relationships at all levels of leadership.
