The Opportunity

Data Engineering Services (DES) is seeking an experienced and passionate Product Manager to join the team on a 6-month fixed-term opportunity. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in delivering one of the most innovative and transformative data platform initiatives in the higher education sector – the Monash Lakehouse.

Working closely with the Associate Director, Data Engineering Services, you will help shape the future of the University's enterprise data platform, partnering with architects, technical specialists and leading technology vendors to deliver high-value data and analytics capabilities. You'll be responsible for defining the product vision and roadmap, prioritising delivery, and ensuring product outcomes align with organisational priorities and user needs.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, drive innovation and work at the forefront of modern data platform technologies while contributing to the successful delivery of Monash University's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction, planning and continuous improvement of assigned products, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and user needs.

  • Develop and manage product roadmaps, priorities and requirements, driving the product lifecycle from discovery through to delivery, release and optimisation.

  • Provide leadership across cross-functional teams, coordinating technical and business stakeholders to deliver product outcomes, manage dependencies and achieve release milestones.

  • Prioritise product enhancements and new features based on business value, user experience and strategic priorities, ensuring successful implementation.

  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and provide expert advice to support product adoption, change management and the delivery of sustainable business outcomes.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Extensive experience managing the full product lifecycle, from concept and strategy through to delivery, launch and continuous improvement.

  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams in Agile and Lean environments, managing priorities, dependencies and delivery outcomes.

  • Strong strategic planning, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business needs into practical product solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience developing product roadmaps, defining requirements and prioritising initiatives based on business value and user needs.

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship management skills, with experience working across diverse and complex organisations.

  • Highly developed communication and presentation skills, with the ability to provide expert advice and communicate complex concepts to varied audiences
