Remuneration: A stipend of up to $46,000 per annum is available for 3 years, which may be converted to top-up funding if candidates receive a university or national PhD scholarship. Additional support is available for project resources and conference attendance.

About the project
There are several potential PhD projects available for support through the NHMRC-funded Blood Synergy program. Candidates will contribute to a large multidisciplinary program of research which focuses on making better use of blood and improving outcomes for recipients of blood products in the following target areas: critical bleeding, critical illness, blood disease, or immunoglobulin use.
We welcome expressions of interest from candidates with research interests aligned with any part of the Blood Synergy program. Candidates interested in pursuing projects in the following priority areas are particularly encouraged to apply:
- Models of demand for blood use
- Health service delivery for transfusion medicine
- Implementation science in transfusion medicine
- Patient reported experience measures
Blood Synergy and Monash University
The Blood Synergy is a clinical research program funded by an NHMRC Synergy grant, and is focused on addressing Australia’s national transfusion priorities to deliver safer and more appropriate transfusion support for patients, help guide better stewardship of national blood supplies, and reduce costs to the community. Our research encompasses observational studies, meta-analyses and systematic reviews, clinical registries, and interventional clinical trials, to provide evidence that informs blood policy and practice both within Australia, and internationally.
The Blood Synergy team is an alliance of national and international leaders in transfusion medicine and related clinical disciplines, as well as health economics. Our investigators are affiliated with universities and other organisations across Australia. The program is led out of the Transfusion Research Unit (TRU) in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University, with support from the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre (ANZIC RC), and the Centre for Health Economics (CHE) at Monash Business School. Supervisory team
The supervisory team will be comprised of Blood Synergy investigators and their collaborators, and will depend on the specific project area identified for the candidate.
Eligibility Requirements
This opportunity is available to domestic students only. Candidates will need to fulfil the Monash University minimum requirements for admission to a PhD detailed here: www.monash.edu/admissions/entry-requirements/minimum.
Candidates will also need to demonstrate:
- a background in a relevant field, which may include medicine, clinical sciences, health care delivery, public health, health economics, implementation science, or mathematical modelling
- excellent research capability and communication skills
Candidates shortlisted from the EOI stage will be invited to discuss specific project ideas via Zoom prior to submitting a formal PhD application.
