The Opportunity

Join University Communications at Monash as a Media and Communications Officer and play a key role in shaping how the University’s research, people and impact are seen and understood.

Working at the front line of  the Media and Communications team, you’ll help turn stories, ideas and emerging opportunities into compelling media outcomes across digital, online and print channels. You’ll coordinate proactive media opportunities and support timely responses to incoming enquiries, while helping manage campaigns, projects, events, reporting and day-to-day media operations.

This is an opportunity to combine strong communications capability with exceptional organisation, judgement and stakeholder service. You’ll work across a diverse network of academics, professional staff and external stakeholders, providing trusted advice and helping identify opportunities to strengthen Monash’s profile and showcase its leading research.

You’ll also contribute to improving media processes, systems and ways of working, bringing initiative, analytical thinking and a continuous-improvement mindset to a fast-moving communications environment. With the scope to work independently while collaborating closely with experienced media professionals, this role is ideal for someone who thrives on variety, enjoys solving problems and is excited by the opportunity to make a visible impact.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Media relations expertise: Strong understanding of the media landscape and its role within an integrated corporate communications environment.
  • Communications and campaign delivery: Demonstrated ability to coordinate media campaigns, communications activities, projects and operational processes effectively.
  • Organisation and prioritisation: Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Service excellence: Strong commitment to high-quality client and stakeholder service, with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Judgement and initiative: Ability to work collaboratively while exercising independence, sound judgement and initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and digital capability: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with high-level computer literacy and confidence working with data, systems and reporting.
  • Communication and stakeholder engagement: Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing content across print and digital channels and managing complex stakeholder interactions.
