The Opportunity
Reporting to the ERP Finance Lead, the focus of the Finance Specialist – Subject Matter Expert (ERP Project) will be to apply deep, specialised domain expertise to guide the design, configuration, and build of Monash University’s new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Serving as a critical bridge between business operations and the technical implementation team, you will help shape future-state processes, ensure compliance, and translate operational needs into seamless system specifications across three primary SME domains:
- FP&A and Research Reporting: Focusing on segmentation reporting, structured drill-down reports, native/warehouse reporting tools, project accounting, and management ledger design.
- Statutory Reporting, Taxes & Transactional Processing: Driving compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Department of Education requirements, statutory tax frameworks (GST, FBT, Pillar 2), general ledger structures, foreign exchange, asset accounting, and financial controls.
- Faculty & Portfolio Reporting: Shaping reporting dimensions, master data alignment (profit/cost centres), and ensuring local faculty and portfolio needs align seamlessly with Group reporting standards.
What You'll Be Doing
Sitting within the broader ERP programme, you'll act as the connective tissue between finance subject matter experts and the technical delivery team. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Engaging with SMEs across finance functions to capture requirements, validate configuration, and support end-to-end testing cycles
- Analysing existing finance processes and identifying how ERP capability can reduce manual effort and improve data integrity
- Producing clear functional documentation, including process maps, test scripts, and training materials tailored to finance audiences
- Supporting go-live readiness activities including issue triage, cutover planning, and hypercare
What You'll Bring
- Demonstrated experience in ERP finance implementation or optimisation, ideally within a large and complex organisation
- Strong working knowledge of core finance modules - general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or financial reporting
- Proven ability to facilitate workshops and build trusted relationships with finance stakeholders
- Experience producing functional specification or process documentation to a professional standard
- Familiarity with health sector finance operations or public sector environments is highly regarded
- A structured approach to problem-solving with close attention to detail
