The Opportunity

We are seeking a Research Assistant to provide administrative, operational and research support to the Stamatakis research group, led by Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis in the School of Psychological Sciences. The group is based at BrainPark (Clayton campus) and undertakes translational research on how movement, sleep and other everyday behaviours shape cardiovascular, brain and mental health, using wearable technologies and advanced data science. We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from current Monash staff in administrative or research support roles who are looking to initiate a new role or pick up additional part-time hours.

The person employed in the position will work directly with Associate Professor Matthew Ahmadi, Mrs Meghna Pathak, Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis, and members of the research group. The role has a strong administrative focus.

What you’ll do:

  • Organising and scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and preparing agendas and minutes

  • Coordinating research events, seminars, travel and bookings

  • Processing purchase requests, invoices and reimbursements, and maintaining records of project expenditure

  • Supporting research project administration, including ethics documentation, approvals and progress reports

  • Assisting with formatting and referencing manuscripts, reports and presentations

  • Supporting participant recruitment and scheduling, and maintaining participant databases

  • Maintaining laboratory supplies and supporting the booking and tracking of wearable devices

  • Assisting with onboarding and day-to-day administrative support for research students and new staff

  • Other administrative and  research support responsibilities, as per the Team’s needs

The successful applicant will have a diploma-level qualification with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training. Strong administration and organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality customer service are essential. Experience in a university or research environment is highly desirable.

Familiarity with Monash systems and processes (e.g. purchasing, travel and event booking) would be an advantage, as would a willingness to learn new software, including reference management and AI productivity tools.
