The Opportunity
As Clinical Specialist Case Manager within Monash University’s Safer Community Unit (SCU), you will play a critical role in promoting safety and wellbeing across the Monash Group. Applying specialist expertise in behavioural risk assessment, threat management and complex mental health, you will deliver trauma-informed, person-centred responses to disclosures of harm, provide early intervention and proportionate risk management, and advise on complex cases across local and international campuses.
This position will be responsible for managing sensitive and high-risk cases, conducting evidence-based risk and threat assessments, and providing specialist advice and recommendations on matters including gender-based violence, stalking, threats, child safety and complex mental health presentations. You will coordinate responses to disclosures of harm, facilitate referrals and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop effective risk management strategies. The role will prepare clear briefings, reports and papers to inform decision-making, contribute to campus threat assessment and management processes, and deliver training and psychoeducation to strengthen staff and student capability. You will also support the development of SCU policies, procedures and resources, maintain accurate case records, monitor legislative and best-practice developments, and build strong partnerships to ensure timely, consistent and legally compliant responses across the University.
To be successful in this role you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in counselling, psychology, social work, forensic behavioural science or a related discipline, with appropriate professional registration or membership, alongside significant experience in behavioural case management within a highly regulated environment. You will bring demonstrated expertise in managing sensitive disclosures, complex mental health presentations and high-risk behavioural matters, supported by strong skills in threat assessment, trauma-informed practice and risk mitigation. Your exceptional interpersonal, analytical and written communication skills will enable you to manage challenging situations, build trusted stakeholder relationships and deliver high-quality advice and reports. You will also demonstrate sound legislative knowledge, strong organisational skills, a commitment to inclusion and culturally safe practice, and the ability to exercise sound judgement and initiative in complex situations.
