About the Role

Have you got a sharp mind for data analysis and the ability to translate complex concepts into compelling, accessible stories? Then this role might be the place to use your skillset to bolster digital journalism in the ABC's busy Melbourne newsroom.

As part of a tight-knit and supportive team, you'll be covering big and breaking stories to produce content relevant to a broad cross-section of Australians, reflecting the cultural, geographic, and socio-economic diversity of the country.

The role will involve:

  • Researching, gathering, preparing and writing stories that engage and inform a variety of diverse audiences across Victoria
  • Collaborating with senior journalists, from breaking news to in-depth investigations
  • Generating and conducting interviews with your own original story ideas and angles
  • Using audience analytics to inform story treatments, headlines, and presentation.

About You

We are seeking an energetic, inquisitive self-starter with sound working experience in news scenarios, in particular news writing and digital production in a newsroom.

You will also have:

  • Experience sub-editing articles written by other journalists and working with them to perfect copy.
  • Demonstrated interest in data journalism and using data to tell and illustrate stories.
  • A thorough understanding of the way news stories are presented online, including on social media and digital platforms
