The Role

The ABC is seeking expressions of interest from motivated and experienced Digital Journalists, looking to join our Breaking News team in Brisbane.

We are looking for an experienced journalist who thrives in a dynamic fast paced environment where you will have the opportunity to break live news stories first. We’re looking for someone with the flexibility to work shifts across a 7-day roster, including early starts, late finishes and weekends.

The Job

  • Pitch, write and edit high-quality news stories and explainers for a broad Australian audience
  • Cover live and breaking national and international news, including live blogs
  • Pitch and produce innovative storytelling methods for digital platforms
  • Stay informed on emerging digital news trends
  • Curate stories and craft alerts for ABC audiences

About You

You are an experienced Digital Journalist with a sound track record of digital journalism and enthusiasm for online as a medium. You will have the ability to work as part of a team and meet regular production deadlines.

You'll also have: 

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in journalism and online publishing.
  • Skilled in covering breaking news and live events
  • Produce accurate, concise, and engaging digital content
  • Knowledge of digital technologies, analytics, and platforms
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Maintain strong networks across the Australian community
