Our Supply Chain Australian Operations team based at our Melbourne Head Office is a key business support unit in the regional hub, that works closely and collaboratively with our Australian assets. The Supply Chain team is responsible for developing and executing collaborative commercial arrangements for the provision of goods and services to MMG’s Australian sites, ensuring that MMG derives maximum value from its external spend. Our scope encompasses delivery of sourcing and contract management activities and site inventory.
Principal - Sourcing and Contracting
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal - Sourcing and Contracting. This role runs a team responsible for the planning and execution of sourcing activities to select suppliers capable of fulfilling MMG’s needs, and for the on-going stewardship of logistics, utilities (particularly Energy), chemicals, and fixed plant categories of external spend.
Reporting to the Manager, Supply Chain Australian Operations, this role will ensure that MMG derives maximum value from its external spend through execution of structured market engagements and ongoing category and contract stewardship; and providing leadership and support of Sourcing Specialists.
Competencies, qualifications and skills:
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Engineering, or a related field, with proven experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, or Commercial roles.
- Strong commercial acumen, including strategic sourcing, contract management, negotiation, and risk/legal frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and influence others while building collaborative relationships across all levels.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience drafting contracts, business cases, and recommendation documents.
- Industry experience in Mining, Resources, or Logistics preferred; category knowledge in Utilities (particularly Energy), Logistics, Chemicals, and Fixed Plant (capital projects) desirable.
- Agile and adaptable, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead and coach team members by identifying skill gaps and development opportunities to strengthen the broader Supply Chain function.
- Drive category planning through cost analysis, market insights, and identification of emerging technologies, suppliers, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Manage end-to-end sourcing and contracting activities for high-impact requirements, including planning and executing negotiation strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align on business needs, operational plans, and delivery impacts.
- Develop and manage work plans based on operational priorities, workload intensity, and sourcing timelines.
- Lead supplier evaluations and support value-driven decision-making through structured assessments.
