Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
MMG Rosebery has an office in Burnie (Tasmania), giving employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.
Control Systems Engineer
MMG Rosebery is currently recruiting a Control Systems Engineer on a 4:3 roster, DIDO or Residential to Rosebery.
You will possess an intimate knowledge of the Process Control System (PCS) and actively support operations and ensure process control functionality is of the highest quality, ultimately aiding the improvement in value recovery from the concentrator.
You will also be responsible for guiding the ongoing maintenance and optimisation of the SCADA/PLC system and ensuring the control system architecture is maintained for additions, changes and improvements.
Responsibilities Include (however not limited to):
- Troubleshooting control equipment, automation, and instrumentation solutions, and managing their remediation.
- Integration of Process control data (OT) data into Process historians and OT systems to the IT systems to enhance data flow, improve system reliability, whilst strengthening cybersecurity posture.
- Ensure process and control systems documentation is accurate and updated. This is inclusive of P&IDs, wiring diagrams, Sops support documentation, high level specifications and functional description.
- Maintain the environment ensuring adherence to change control, safety, and regulatory protocols.
- Adhere to change Management processes; guaranteeing the system architecture is maintained and the integrity of interfaces from the SCADA/historian to Mine Operating Systems are preserved.
- Coordinate with support vendors and Process Control Integrators to maintain and enhance the process control environment.
- Implement and maintain process control software and databases.
- Support improvement initiatives in cybersecurity and the industrial control systems network.
- Assist in the lifecycle management of control systems through regular inspections, projects, and preventive maintenance of control equipment.
- Consult with external Process Control Support Contractors involved in both project and support work functions.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to key users of the Process Control System, facilitating training programs and mentoring of processing technical staff.
- Demonstrate safe behaviour at all times and comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC whilst promoting best practises and a positive safety culture at all times.
About You:
- Minimum 5+ years site-based control system experience.
- Previous exposure to DCS and PLC systems, Aveva Pi, as well as OPC and other industrial telecommunications.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols with ControlNet, Device net, Ethernet, Modbus, Wireless, Fibre Optic and RTU communications highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and manage processing plant control system performance and undertake control loop tuning and alarm management to improve circuit operation and stability.
- Demonstrated experience in identification and implementation of projects to maximise value recovery through improvements in the process control.
- Experience with working with process historians, with experience working with Aveva PI highly regarded.
- Thorough understanding of Process Control System architecture, specifically Honeywell (Experion) DCS and/ or SCADA/ Rockwell PLC based systems including coding.
- Ability to understand and interpret electrical drawings, process flow diagrams and P&ID's.
- Sound knowledge of process control optimisation techniques, including but not limited to loop tuning and alarm management.
- In depth understanding of process control system architecture and change management process required to preserve it.
- Possess strong customer focus and teamwork skills to listen, interact, influence and deploy.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and initiative with the ability to work autonomously
- An unwavering commitment to safe work practices with demonstrate safe behaviour at all times and comply with the site’s standards and procedures.
- A manual C Class driver’s license
- First aid certificate – Desirable
- Ability to pass a Police Clearance, Pre employment Medical and DAS.
