About the Role:

The successful Speech Pathologist will be working across 2 different teams based mainly at the Repat Health Precinct. 0.4FTE as a member of the GEM at Home team, which provides care to older people with complex medical, functional and/or psychosocial needs in their own home in lieu of an extended or avoidable hospital admission. This includes the provision of geriatrician-led, multidisciplinary assessment, restorative interventions, and sustainable care planning in collaboration with the older person, their family, carer and existing community services involved in their care. 0.6FTE is part of the GEM team which also provides interdisciplinary management of Older Persons as inpatients in the new wards at the Repat. The 2 teams work together and provide a comprehensive service for this very important part of our community. You will also be working as part of the RAP Speech Pathology Team which provide services to the Repat Health Precinct, FMC Rehab, Aged and Palliative Care and Noarlunga Hospital. The experienced team of almost 20 SP staff offer support for development of skills and person-centred approaches to holistic management of patients with neurological, functional and/or cognitive impairments within the multi-D environment including access to instrumental swallowing assessments such as VFSS and FEES.

About you:

  • Must hold an appropriate Degree in Speech Pathology or other appropriate qualification giving eligibility for full Membership of Speech Pathology Australia. 
  • Experience as a clinician in the assessment and provision of high quality Speech Pathology to patients with a variety of complex communication and/or swallowing issues of neurological, medical or surgical origin.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining high standards of Speech Pathology.
  • Ability to provide clinical Speech Pathology services to GEM and/or GEM at Home like services as a member of an interdisciplinary team. This includes ability to undertake assessment and intervention with clients with a variety of disorders and disabilities.
  • Ability to critically analyse or evaluate issues related to Speech Pathology care in a manner which can be applied to quality activities, service evaluation, professional education or research with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
