Overview

The Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) provides sterilisation and reprocessing of reusable medical devices within the Theatre Unit at Riverland General Hospital.

Working within the Operating Theatres at Riverland General Hospital, the CSSD Assistant contributes to the effectiveness of sterilisation services by performing work under supervision.

The effective and qualitative sterilisation service the CSSD Assistant provides is:

  • Decontamination;
  • Preparation and packaging; and
  • Contributing to the efficient and effective operation of the health unit.

Employees at WHA3 level are unqualified and undergo an up to 12 month orientation program relating to the provision of sterilising services.

Eligibility

Applicants must have proven ability to:

  • work well within a team environment
  • be flexible in their approach to work and rostering systems
  • use effective interpersonal and communication skills to relate to people from different cultures, backgrounds and circumstances, using effective written, verbal and numeracy skills
  • use discretion and maintain strict confidentiality
  • meet deadlines and timeframes
  • provide assistance and co-operation to other staff
  • exercise own judgement and initiative in the day to day execution of a position
  • use computer packages eg. Microsoft Word, Excel

A current first aid certificate and experience in the perioperative and CSSD department desirable.
