About the role(s)

Technical Officer -  Virology/Serology/Molecular Diagnostics

The position is classified at the TGO1 level by virtue of the overall level of job demand and responsibility, and particularly contains the requirement to apply standard practices and procedures in a technical environment. They will exercise their knowledge and apply technical expertise, experience and judgement within the Virology/Serology/Molecular laboratory.

The following objectives for a Technical Officer at the classification level of TGO 1 are as follows:

• Activities at this level may be undertaken on an individual basis or in a team and will include a requirement to exercise knowledge.
• Perform duties which require expertise, experience and technical skills to apply standardised practices and procedures in the conduct of a range of technical activities.
• Participate in technical project work which requires a level of applied knowledge and skill, which can be gained by experience.

Technical Officer -  Food & Environmental Laboratory

The technical officer is required to perform routine diagnostic laboratory functions in the Food and Environmental Laboratory, including specimen reception, processing of diagnostic samples (automated and manual), preliminary evaluation and reporting of associated results and data processing associated with diagnostic tests, dispatch of specimens and maintaining laboratory supplies.

The following objectives for a Technical Officer at the classification level of TGO 1 are as follows:

• Activities at this level may be undertaken on an individual basis or in a team and will include a requirement to exercise knowledge.
• Perform duties which require expertise, experience and technical skills to apply standardised practices and procedures in the conduct of a range of technical activities.
• Participate in technical project work which requires a level of applied knowledge and skill, which can be gained by experience.

Technical Officer - Bacteriology

The position is classified at the TGO1 level by virtue of the overall level of job demand and responsibility, and particularly contains the requirement to apply standard practices and procedures in a technical environment. The following objectives for a Technical Officer at the classification level of TGO 1 are as follows:

Essential Requirements:

• Current National Police Clearance (NPC)
• Working With Children Check (DHS)
• Immunisation screening as indicated in the role description. SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications:

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in an approved and recognised qualification
