We are looking for a Consultant to join our Ophthalmology team and help make a difference in Southern Adelaide's local community!

The Department of Ophthalmology at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) is the centre of excellence for academic ophthalmology in South Australia. With joint support from Flinders University, the department hosts research and teaching programs, clinical services at the Flinders Eye Centre including day surgery, the Eye Bank of South Australia (donor tissue for corneal transplantation), Australian Corneal Graft Registry and Australia and New Zealand Registry of Advanced Glaucoma. 

About the Role:

Reporting to the Head of Unit Ophthalmology, the Ophthalmology Consultant provides clinical services of the highest possible standard to Ophthalmology Department patients. As the Ophthalmology Consultant, some of your key responsibilities may include: 

  • Providing a high quality clinical service and clinical leadership. 
  • Providing appropriate support, direction and training to trainee medical officers and medical students. 
  • Engender a consumer focus in service delivery by ensuring patients and families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and  follow up. 

About you:

  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical practice in Ophthalmology. 
  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration (Ophthalmology); or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award. 
  • Experience with the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff. 
  • Extensive clinical experience relevant to work in Ophthalmology. 
  • Ability to ensure good communication between health care professionals through accurate and objective written notes.
