Are you a dedicated cook with a passion for creating nutritious and delicious meals? Penola War Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled Cook to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining high standards of food service for our patients and staff.

About the Role: As a Cook, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient production and distribution of meals, maintaining quality control, and managing food supplies. You will work closely with the Corporate Services Team Leader on a daily basis and report to the Director of Nursing for overall responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the ordering of non-impress food supplies, meal plating, and menu selections.
  • Ensure quality control of food production is maintained to an acceptable standard.
  • Operate complex machinery and computerised systems, and program detailed work functions.
  • Provide guidance to other employees and contribute to the ongoing review and development of guidelines and procedures.
  • Train apprentices and oversee catering staff to ensure balanced menus and special diet cooking.
  • Liaise with procurement offices regarding food orders and control production food effectively.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Trade Qualifications: Relevant trade qualifications or trade equivalent skills as a Cook.
  • Team Player: Proven ability to work well within a team and relate to all levels of staff.
  • Flexibility: Flexible approach to work and rostering systems.
  • Time Management: Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Leadership: Experience in allocating, inspecting, and determining work priorities for staff.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience: Previous experience in preparing and cooking bulk meals, overseeing staff, and accommodating dietary requirements.
  • Technical Skills: Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
  • Judgement: Proven ability to exercise judgement and initiative in daily tasks.
  • Food Safety Knowledge: Sound knowledge of food storage, handling techniques, and safe working conditions.
  • Legislative Awareness: Understanding of Risk Management, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Occupational Health, Safety, and Welfare legislation.
