Driving Consumer-Centered Care: OPS2 Consumer Specialist Worker Vacancy

The Consumer Specialist Worker plays a pivotal role in advocating for residents and ensuring that services provided at the Community Rehabilitation Centre are consumer-centric and driven. They work closely with residents, staff, and the larger community to support clinical and non-clinical psychosocial goals, facilitate the transition of residents back to their accommodation, and promote the concept of recovery. Utilizing their lived experience, the Consumer Specialist Worker empowers consumers and service providers to achieve the best possible outcomes for individuals.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Trevor Parry Centre (TPC) Team Manager, the Associate Nurse Unit Manager, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Clinical Psychologist, some of your duties as the Consumer Specialist Worker may involve: 

  • Acting as a positive role model to coach, guide and support CRC residents in the acquisition of self-management behaviours. 
  • Inspiring and influencing appropriate attitudes towards consumers.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively and seamlessly with mental health and other service providers in facilitating positive rehabilitation and recovery opportunities through integrated and coordinated care planning. 

About you:

  • Lived experience of mental illness and successful recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in supporting mental health consumers to engage in their own recovery journey through shared lived experience.
  • Experience working with a wide range of people and working effectively with people with diverse range of disabilities including mental health. 
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in providing a consumer’ perspective to enrich and progress evolving rehabilitation and recovery frameworks of service provision.
  • Demonstrated ability and high level skills in interacting with people who are living with a mental illness. 
  • High standard of written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to advocate for consumers across a range of mental health settings and in the larger community.
