Are you an Advanced Practitioner Speech Pathologist looking to join a highly experienced interdisciplinary Allied Health team? 

The Advanced Practitioner Speech Pathologist in Head and Neck Cancer/ENT is accountable to the Manager of Speech Pathology Acute, for planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the service to improve patient outcomes and achieve service objectives in collaboration with the Ear, Nose and Throat Consultants through Division of Surgery. 

About the role: 

This position will oversee and deliver expert Speech Pathology service to this patient cohort and clinical leadership to ensure safe, efficient and appropriate care with a particular focus on the ENT specialty. Duties for this role may involve: 

  • Maintaining a clinical caseload to provide professional expertise in the timely assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and education for patients with complex communication and/or swallowing disorders within the speciality area Head and Neck cancer/ENT including laryngectomy, tracheostomy, altered airways.
  • Liaising with referring agents and other disciplines involved in patient care to assist in cooperative care planning and patient management.
  • Establish, coordinate and deliver new Speech Pathology Head & Neck/ENT Outpatient services ensuring a patient centred approach that meets service KPIs and considers patient needs, context and culture.

About you:

  • High level inter-personal and negotiating skills and the ability to communicate with clients and staff at various levels, both verbally and in writing
  • Degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent, giving eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
  • Significant training and experience in conducting specialised instrumental examinations of swallowing, including Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies and Functional Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
  • Proven experience in delivering high quality and safe care consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Service Standards
