Whyalla Hospital

Whyalla Hospital and Health Services is a large regional hospital comprising of 75 beds including flex beds and a designated High Dependency Unit. The hospital provides a wide range of services, including emergency, medical and surgical, maternity, rehabilitation, mental health, and outpatients. Whyalla Hospital’s Cancer Resource Centre is one of the largest in regional South Australia. It includes six chemotherapy chairs, outpatient care and counselling services, reducing the need to travel outside of the region for care. It is also, one of three stroke services in regional SA, providing specialised treatment for suitable stroke patients 24/7, supported by metropolitan stroke units. Our staff work in close partnership with community health services and Aboriginal health providers, to ensure that optimum care is delivered to all areas of the community. About the Role:

Take your career to the next level by joining our team as an Associate Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager in our High Dependency Unit! In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering exceptional nursing and midwifery care, backed by your experience and continued professional growth.

As a key member of our leadership team, you will not only be responsible for your own high standards of practice, but also for mentoring and guiding less experienced staff, helping them grow into proficient practitioners. You’ll work closely with the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent, contributing to the smooth running of the ward/unit/service while ensuring continuity and consistency of care for our patients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with other Associate Nurse/Midwife Unit Managers and the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager to implement and maintain best practices.
  • Supporting the management and leadership of the team by assisting with performance management, recruitment, staffing, leave and attendance, and rostering.
  • Playing an integral role in planning and monitoring financial and supplies needs, ensuring efficient operation across the unit.

About You:

  • Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience or currently classified as a Clinical Nurse/Midwife.
  • Demonstrated competence in the relevant area of nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice.
  • Experience in the supervision of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.
