About the role

  • Contribute to the provision of an effective and efficient operation of Anatomical Pathology - by providing a scientific resource function to all areas of the department including the State Perinatal Autopsy Service based at the WCH. Perform routine and complex diagnostic testing and apply scientific knowledge towards the performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures.
  • Contribute to the provision of paediatric and obstetric anatomical pathology services through the WCH and Frome Road laboratories.
  • Contribute to the dissection of simple and non-complex specimens according to NPAAC guidelines.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, NATA accreditation, training, and on-going commitment to the teaching of trainee pathologists, technical and scientific staff within the RAH and the WCH laboratories.

About You

We’re seeking a dedicated and skilled individual with a passion for delivering high-quality pathology services. To succeed in this role, you’ll demonstrate a strong foundation in scientific expertise and technical skills, along with a proactive and team-oriented approach. The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications: Hold a degree at the Australian Qualifications Framework level 7 in a relevant field of pathology, or an equivalent qualification as assessed by the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists, as required for Medical Pathology Laboratory supervision.
  • Skills and Abilities: Demonstrate proficiency in performing diagnostic tests, histopathological techniques, and specialised staining procedures, while maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and time management. Showcase excellent communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.  The candidate will need to demonstrate a desire to participate in the operation of the State Perinatal Autopsy Service, based at the WCH.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in histopathology, including tissue processing, frozen sectioning, and applying ISO and NATA accreditation requirements. Familiarity with Anatomical Pathology, quality control, and mortuary operations is essential.
  • Knowledge: Possess in-depth knowledge of histotechnology, human anatomy, tissue preparation, and relevant legislative acts such as the Transplantation and Anatomy Act and the Coroners Act, along with understanding ISO and NATA accreditation standards.
